Our club

Established 1865

A proud history of almost 160 years!

On  4th September 1865, 14 gentlemen met in Ingrams’ Hotel for the purpose of organising a Regatta Club on the River Nith.  After discussion it was agreed that, The ‘Nith Regatta Club’ be formed. In 1890 the name was changed to Nithsdale Amateur Rowing Club.

What are we about?

We’re about

BUILDING A BIG COMMUNITY

Through our “Learn 2 Row” courses and regular open days we are dedicated to bringing people together through a love of being on the water.

WE’RE ABOUT

BEING OUT ON THE RIVER

Regardless of if you prefer competitive racing in a quad or a relaxing row in a skull. We all share a love for being out on our historic river.

WE’RE ABOUT

BEING ACTIVE IN THE ROWING COMMUNITY

From our associations with the Crichton university campus boat club to our annual regatta. We are committed to being active within the UK rowing community and involving other clubs in local events.

Our modern boathouse

Our modern boathouse houses a fleet of up to date boats – eights, fours, pairs and singles for rowing and sculling – on the ground floor, while upstairs we have social facilities, changing rooms, and indoor training space and equipment.

We welcome experienced rowers, beginners and those interested in competitive or recreational rowing. If you would like to try rowing with us please contact our Captain, or call at the Club on a Sunday morning – we think you will enjoy it.
